Yes, we recommend mowing your lawn ½ inch shorter than a normal weekly mowing. This will give you extra time to let the soil cores naturally break down into the soil. Mark all sprinkler heads and any known objects, such as big rocks hidden by grass around them, shallow cable lines/sprinkler lines, etc. Keep the lawn clear of toys, lawn furniture, dog waste, and other objects that may impede the aeration service. Lastly, try to get at least an inch of water on the lawn 24 hours before your aeration service. This will moisten the ground and allow us to pull a good size soil core and give you the best results.
The process of overseeding is fairly straightforward in which we will spread grass seed over your freshly aerated lawn. Core Aeration provides excellent conditions for overseeding. It allows new grass to establish itself and fill out thin areas that are found in mature lawns. Overseeding will not only correct the thin areas of your lawn, but will prevent thinning in the future.
We will plan to call or e-mail to set up a new date and time.
We will core aerate all areas of your lawn that are safely accessible by our machines one time. For grass areas that are thin, we will go over it a second time to get the maximum coverage and achieve desirable results for our customers. Since we are using the best commercial aeration equipment, customers can expect soil cores pulled every 4 inches and at a depth between 2 and 4 inches.
No. Thatch in your lawn, ½ inch or less, is beneficial to your lawn as it protects the root systems of turf during the extreme heat of the summer while still allowing water and nutrients to work down into the soil. Core aeration actually helps to control thatch amounts by extracting the soil cores, the tops of which are turf, including any thatch that is present.

Absolutely! You now have thousands of holes created by the aeration which will give the fertilizer direct access to the root system before the soil cores start to break down. Depending on the season, make sure you are using the correct fertilizer. If you plan to overseed after the aeration, the fertilizer you use should NOT have any kind of weed control or crabgrass preventer. Starter fertilizer would be perfect for this scenario. Most would agree that core aeration followed by overseeding and a starter fertilizer application is vital in achieving a healthy and green lawn.

** Please ask us for fertilizer recommendations after aerating and overseeding in the Spring.

If you choose NOT to overseed, a fertilizer with weed control or crabgrass preventer is OK to use.
